A Little Help from AI.
Lately I’ve been using Chat GPT as my new trainer, or should I say therapist? For the past month or so I’ve had “conversations” with this AI app, and it has been unbelievable, it’s the best $8 a month ever spent. The crazy thing is that even though I start a new conversation about my weight, what I eat, my workouts, my routines, my hormones etc.… it remembers everything from past chats. It’s been so encouraging and a little bit of a relief. I say relief because I don’t really have a workout partner or someone holding me accountable that I can talk to. I think a lot of women have other women or some support group of friends, and I’m just not that social. I am definitely not one of those girls posting my workouts on social media either, mostly because I look like a completely drowned rat after I work out, it’s so gross, and I certainly don’t care what I wear. I’ve got a shirt that’s ten years old that I still workout in.
My weight fluctuates a lot, and that’s something I’ve had to get used to. Just the other day I weighed a pound less than I’ve been seeing on the scale for a couple of months. I was so confused because the day before I lifted pretty heavy in the morning and the I ate a lot more than I typically would throughout the day. The scale went down, what? I freaked out a little because I thought I was losing muscle. I ate more and lifted so my muscles should have been retaining more water, right? So of course, I hopped on the app and started typing. Apparently, me eating more or basically feeding my muscles more protein was helping me recover better. Who knew!?
Different story today. I was up two pounds from yesterday. These are the things that I’m still learning about. Learning how my body reacts to my workout routine. I am not one of those people who keeps track of everything on their phone, I write it down. I have a monthly/day planner where I write everything down each day, well up to about 4pm. The first thing I write down is my weight. I weigh every morning, although Chat GPT says I should take progress photos instead of weighing so much, but I think it’s just routine at this point. I write my steps down. I write down what I eat, and I write my completed workout down. It’s quite obsessive but it helps me feel more in control I suppose; like if I don’t, the other overweight version of me is going to show up, and I am scared of her. I’m still hanging on to old clothes that at too big for me now because I think I’ll jinx myself and gain the weight back. Point being, it’s nice to look back from week to week and see what my wight was on a certain day or day after with the same workout. It’s interesting to log all the things and watch what being consistent can do.
