If You Can See It…
This morning I was listening to the Mel Robbins Podcast with Olympic gold medalist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and it was really great. I have to say that I am a firm believer in envisioning what you want and it has to happen. Shelly-Ann spoke about how on Friday’s, those were the days that were set aside for basically a mental workout. All she did was envision her and her races, how she would race and how she would win. The ½ marathon that I signed up for last spring, I envisioned what I would wear, how I would look (as in the physique I wanted to build) and me finishing the race. I did this a lot, and I remember that it really gave me something to strive for. I am one of those people that needs to set a goal and have something to work for, whether it’s a race or how I want to look when I go on vacation.
I am also a huge believer in vision boards. Currently, I have my vision board printed out and taped up right beside my Peloton tread; I see it every morning. I also have it as my desktop background on my computer. I love that I can actually cross off the “visions” that I have put together on my board. I LOVE to cross things off. I’ll write anything down just knowing that if I do it, I can cross it off. I’ve been tinkering with updating my visions throughout the year. It bothers me to do so, but sometimes you just out grow, accomplish things and need to set new visions for yourself. One of my favorite visions is of this woman, very fit, in baggy sweats and a tiny white tank top with a thick cozy cardigan sweater sitting on a deck with a glass of wine looking out into the sunset. I saw that and wanted it for myself. I came up with a similar outfit, and every once in a while I’ll throw it on when I’m at our lake house, sit on the deck with a glass of wine and enjoy the view. It feels great.
There really is something to be said about mental training or whatever you want to call it. If you can see it, I really think it will happen in some way, shape, or form.
