Making it Easy.
Over the past few months, I’ve really gotten used to the scale fluctuating which in the past was really hard for me to deal with. I can say that tracking my weight, sticking to the same workout routine every week, and writing down my meals has helped. If the scale is up on Thursdays, it’s because on Wednesday I lift heavy and my muscles are retaining water. I can look back at past weeks, and I can see that it was the same then situation then. I can’t tell you how many times I used to hop on the scale in the morning before I started doing this and I would go into complete panic mode. My workouts then were punishment. I thought more cardio was the answer. It’s not. I’ve learned to stick to my routine, get right back on track with my meals and everything goes right back into place. Even if I have a wild and crazy weekend.
Usually, summers are really hard for me to stick with anything, meals and workouts. We have a lake house about 30 minutes from town that we like to stay at on the weekends. I used to start my morning off with booze in my coffee and move on to mimosas after and then proceed to some sort of alcoholic beverage on the boat. No to mention, not the healthiest breakfasts and snaking throughout the day.
Thankfully, I made a choice that this summer was going to be different. I could stick to my routine, but it would need to change a bit. I made my way to TJ Max and bought a yoga mat and a couple set of weights I keep at our lake house. I now take a set of workout clothes, my shoes, and my laptop. I use the laptop to log into my Peloton account and I do a 45 minute full body workout on the deck. I’ve come to love it. I love working out, looking over the lake and watch the sun come up while I’m powering through one of Robin’s classes. If I know we are going to be there for the weekend, I adjust me weekly workout routine just a little bit and easy peasy.
I still take a little pre-workout, but not as much as I do when I workout in my gym at home. I don’t pack up my green juice or my Shakeology, but I make sure to take a couple of pre-made chocolate protein shakes and keep those in the fridge for after. I try to make it easy, and I think that’s why it works. I set my clothes out the night before, just like I do at home. I get my mat, weights, and computer ready to go and wa-la. I’ve not had any booze in my coffee this summer and I try to stay more hydrated, with appropriate drinks.
If you would have told me I’d be this kind of person, even last year, I would have said “no way.” Don’t get me wrong, I still pop open some champs, but I wait a little longer, at least 10:30 or 11, lol, but I make sure that I’m eating some healthy protein with it. These little changes have definitely made a difference this year.
